THE END pt 1 –
5 Instructions From Jesus to Believer’s about The End.
Jesus just told the disciples that all the crazy buildings of this great civilization in Jerusalem are going to be destroyed. And so they ask 3 questions….
What will the signs be of the end?
What will the signs be of the rapture?
Read: Matthew 24:3-35
1. Don’t be deceived. (v4,11,23-26)
- Don’t be alarmed. (v6)
Talk of Wars
Believers Hated by All Nations
Many Will Turn Away from the Faith
- Don’t let your love go grow cold. (v12-13)
12 “Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of MOST will grow cold.”
13 “But he who stands firm to the end will be saved.”
How will this happen? Consider Hypocrisy.
People’s first response to a hypocrite. Leave God.
Don’t let ungodliness keep you from God. Yours or others. Repent for your own, and forgive others.
Salvation is when we give our ungodliness to God, and no longer let it keep us from him. We must continue to do this, and give the ungodliness of others to the Lord as well.
4. Preach the Gospel everywhere. (v14)
14 “And this Gospel of the Kingdom will be preached as a testimony to all nations, and the end will come.”
Vultures come to the Carcass when Decay sets in. In the same way, at the end of the age sin will be consumated in death/fully realized.
5. Fly your kite in the storm. (v.27, 36, 2 Tim 4:8)
Live in the storm of this world seeking that day when Christ comes for you.
Look forward to Him. Anticipate. Lord, come soon!
(Rapture – Like a thief in the night. Will appear for those who are waiting, who love him.
Second Coming – Awesome, Seen by All, Understood Universally)
2 Timothy 4:8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day–and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.
The Devil wants you to be…
1. deceived by godless teachings – commit yourself to God’s Word. His Word above all else.
- Scared out of your mind when every little thing happens in this world, and not able to be used by God in all circumstances. – Bad things are going to happen. Don’t be surprised. Accept it
- Apathetic toward the Lord. – When you come face to face with wickedness. You have to make a decision. Not to let it wet blanket you.
- Don’t tell anyone that a relationship with Christ is what we need for salvation. You need to get serious about one friend this week. You need to talk to them about Jesus everyday.
- Don’t even think about this world and the things of this world coming to an end. You need to think about what’s temporary and what’s eternal. Store up your treasures in heaven. You know how big this world is… It’s not going to last. God wants you to invest things in your relationship with him.
THE END pt 2 –
10 Observations Peter Makes for Believers About The End – 2 Peter 3
2 Peter 3:3-10
The Day of the Lord
3 Dear friends, this is now my second letter to you. I have written both of them as reminders to stimulate you to wholesome thinking. 2 I want you to recall the words spoken in the past by the holy prophets and the command given by our Lord and Savior through your apostles.
3 Above all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. 4 They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.” 5 But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens came into being and the earth was formed out of water and by water. 6 By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. 7 By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.
8 But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. 9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.[a]
1. First – Scoffers
- Deny Eternal Reward & Judgment (Where is this coming he promised?)
- Follow Evil Desires
- Deliberately Forget
2 Peter 3:11-15
New International Version (NIV)
11 Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives 12 as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming.[a] That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. 13 But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.
14 So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him. 15 Bear in mind that our Lord’s patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him.
People anticipating Christ’s return are contrasted with those that scoff
(most important thing in soccer) Because there is an impending disintegration of the universe.
1 John 2:17 The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.
In view of what is in store for the world, What kind of person should you be?
The Second Coming of christ will usher in REWARD FOR THE RIGHTEOUS and JUDGMENT FOR THE WICKED.
3. Holy + Godly (v11)
Holiness refers to your separation from evil and dedication to God.
Godliness refers to worship, walking with God, anointed by God, full of the presence of God, carrying the Holy Spirit from your worshipful heart to the world? When we start talking about godliness we start talking about his glory. Paul says to Timothy, godliness with contentment is great gain. Worship Team are you listening to me? Are you living for more than him? The Bible says that HE is our just reward. Are you pleased having the presence of God if nothing else. Take the world but give me Jesus. Or are you more obsessive over possessions than him, more obsessive over social interaction than him, more obsessive over your romance than time with him.
– I saw a post Kiski Krew post on Incline FB this week about “hey everybody, inclines more not all about social stuff.” And thats absolutely true. We want you to have the freedom to enjoy hanging out in God’s house, but more importantly I want you to enter into the freedom of hanging out with God. You will sense that in your life here – End of the night – spend moments with God here or go chill doing something else – and youre like i just want to worship. More obsessive with him than even partying over there.
4. Heavenward = Forward
Lots Wife – looking back at destruction…
Genesis 19:26 – But Lot’s wife looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.
Luke 17:32 Remember Lot’s wife!
Phil 3:13-14 13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
And don’t let this believing lifestyle make you live in guilt of shortcomings.
Repentance of all sin bring such peace. Your not fighting Christ, youre at peace with him.
Now a life of Half-Repentance is a life of guilt.
Defending and Justifying your sinful actions, attitudes.
In bondage to things that violate God like pornography and mind altering substances – asking forgiveness but not turning from those things. Or putting anything bariers in place between you and them is like asking for forgiveness but never turning heavenward! never looking forward just looking back into your sin!
5. Speed His Coming (v12)
Matt 24:14 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
Acts 3:19-20 19 Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord, 20 and that he may send the Messiah, who has been appointed for you—even Jesus.
- New Home = New You (v13)
7. Make Every Effort (v14)
(Spoudasate) One of Peter’s favorites phrases in scripture.
Intense efforts – to be morally pure.
The same greek words are used in this verse for spotless and blameless as in 1 Peter 1:19, talking about Jesus uses the sames words interpreted “blemish and defect.”
I Peter 1:19 19 We were redeemed from our empty way of life with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.
AKA we must conform to the image of Christ.
8. At Peace with Peace
9. Your Worth
- You are more precious to God than a galaxy of stars and planets.
- He is willing that they will perish. He is not willing for you to perish.
10. God’s Patience
Romans 2:4 Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?
